    It may be fun for play, but I cant see anything real being done on that. Most high end photo editors wont even use a trackpad/laptop...

    Now if they can make it double as a wacom for a desktop and mirror the image form the computer.. now youre talking :)

    And from a user standpoint, having all menus buried and no keyboard shortcuts, you're expanding the time to edit drastically.

    do you own an ipad even? if you did you'd see that there are already some pretty serious apps that do a lot of the thing photoshop can do. also did you listen to the ma at all? this is a way to get work done where having a computer isn't so convenient. you need to do some research before making a a statement like i can't see anything real being done on that. the only difference between a wacom and ipad is pressure sensitivity. well that and price. a color wacom is more expensive and more focused to do one thing very well. below is a link to an artist who does most of their work on an ipad. check it out and tell me it's just a thing for fun!! if photoshop brings a serious app, a 2GB app it will be extremely useful. i'm a comic book illustrator just getting started on the ipad and i see great potential here. i'd like to see retina display mainly for better zoom in when drawing. but the ipad is way more than fun for play.

    Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for binding a NAS to Open Directory for user/group authentication? A number of NAS will authenicate to Active Directory, but apparently OS X Server's Windows support is well below par to support this. QNAP have a firmware update expected July/August which will inbclude wider LDAP support, but is there anything that will work now?

    So, what do you call, and how do we handle the individual(s)who planned, and helped to plan the death of 3,000 + individuals on 9/11, the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, the Bali nightclub bombings, and who knows how many more acts of terrorism?

    Can you honestly sit there and tell me that when we have in custody a high profile leader such as K.S.M. who has intricate, first hand knowledge of a terrorist organization that we should not do all that we can to obtain as much information from this person as possible? I suppose your thinking (and those of many others here) is that he should have been given a trial by jury, sent to prison, and that we had no right to try and obtain information from him?

    This is a false choice. We can interrogate someone, but we cannot torture them.

    Think The Closer rather than 24.

    To quote someone else in this thread "show me proof", in terms of actual statements given under duress and the results of that information. Until you or I see that we are both really just hand-waving.

    As for the guy in the video, he's really the only one out there that I have seen that is so vocal about the ineffectiveness of E.I. I suspect that he is either someone that:

    a) Is just out to make a quick buck off his book;
    b) Has a grudge;
    c) Has remorse about things that he has done and is trying to make amends.

    So, you're going to dismiss the arguments of Matthew Alexander, but readily accept those of people who could be prosecuted for ordering acts of torture? I'd think that John Yoo, for example, would be much less trustworthy than Alexander in these cases.

    BTW, if you guys haven't read Marc Thiessen's Courting Disaster, pick it up. He explains that waterboarding was not used to get answers to questions or confessions, but rather to break their will and spirit and get them to agree to start cooperating.

    Theissen's attempt to draw this distinction is just a distortion of logic. A person who has been tortured and knows that a moment's hesitation will lead to more torture is physiologically and psychologically different than they were before
    Torture changes (http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/80beats/2009/09/22/neuroscientist-says-torture-produces-false-memories-and-bad-intel/) the brain and damages memory and 'executive' faculties.

    Thanks! What should I have my parameters set too?

    If your computer is powerful enough to handle -bigadv units and deliver results on time then do those. Why? Biggest PPD ratio ever.

    You dont seem to know how much pull Samsung has in the components arena do you?

    They are
    #1 in RAM Memory
    #2 in semiconductor LSI
    #1 in flat panel display
    #1 in rechargeable battery
    #2 in mobile phones over all
    #1 in NAND flash memory

    $8 billion to a company with revenue generation in excess of $140 billion is chunp change. That is around 4% of total revenue.

    Never sue your supplier when your supplier can turn around and gobble up other suppliers and increase the price for all OEM makers, but giving itself the cost effective goods, because it also itself is an OEM maker.

    Unlike Apple, who is just a customer, Samsung is BOTH a customer AND a supplier at the same time. Either way, they win.

    Quite recently, Samsung attempted to take over Sandisk, the NAND flash memory company. It wasnt successful due to some differences in price offers. That alone tells you that Samsung is willing to strangle hold the market even more than it already has. NAND flash market alone, Samsung has over 30 % of the market all to itself. For RAM memory, it close to 40%.

    Apple is barking up the wrong tree.

    As I said earlier, Samsung are contracted to supply parts, so Apple can do anything they want.

    And if Samsung stop providing parts, then they simply open the way for other fabs to take up the slack. And don't bet your bottom dollar that there are companies out there who want Apple's $$.

    If Samsung allows it's competition to gear up (eg build a few extra fabs), then the value of their parts will go down as the market gets opened up.

    Samsung need Apple more than Apple need Samsung.

    ====

    Ok, for the dim, here is the problem -

    Making parts is one thing, we can all make parts, we can all go into our garage and make a random widget. We can make hundreds of those widgets.

    But - here is the kicker -

    We need someone to buy those widgets.

    If no one buys the widgets, we can't make the widgets, and in this scenario Apple sell the widget to the end user. The game is with Apple, not the parts supplier.

    What icons/theme are you using? I'm not one to change my icons (nor do I have much experience outside Linux) but that picture just might've changed my mind.

    Mainly used Latt OS X folders (http://esxxi.me/archive/) and the drive icons from the same person (http://esxxi.me/hdrv/).

    Everything else is stock, except for the twitter icon which I got from iconpaper.org.

    Among Samsung's patents that Apple allegedly infringed, there's this one:

    U.S. Patent No. 6,292,179 on a "software keyboard system using trace of stylus on a touch screen and method for recognizing key code using the same"

    Which Apple product uses a trace of stylus???

    To level the playing field, you definitely need to raise taxes predominantly on the rich. If the chart 5P showed about the declared percentages earned and paid in taxes is correct, then I would assume without any doubt that the super rich were paying a great deal less, percentage-wise, than any other taxpayer, since they can afford to use expensive tax accountants - the same tax accountants who advise the Revenue, of course - to help them avoid large chunks of tax due. If their true "earnings" were equitably taxed, they would be paying a far larger percentage of total income tax than they do.

    Overpriced. These games are ancient and most of them don't offer much gameplay at all. Plus it cost atari essentially nothing to put this app out. If they made it $0.99 for the hundred pack then it'd be no-brainer, we'd buy it just for the nostalgia alone. I could conceivably see paying up to $4.99 for the hundred pack for the very small handful of games that are actually worth playing. But $14.99 for these junky games? No way.

    p.s., I'm not saying all old games are bad, quite the contrary, there are a lot of fantastic old games that still hold up well, but the atari era of games were especially crappy.
