I'm not claiming to say that these ads have hurt or helped boost the market shares...I'm only saying that I have only heard negative things about them.
I feel embarrassed watching them.
I personally believe that the market share has risen because of the intel switch. The ads happened to come out at the same time so it's impossible to know how they've affected the market share, but either way I really don't like them. It's not the actors either... definitely the elitist script.
I like that Shaun White ad where he narrates what he does with his computer and this stunt guy (you can only see his torso) is reaching and grabbing at nothing that was edited later to appear as if what he was grabbing at were his folders/documents/songs/etc... Pretty clever. And no snobbishness (yeah that word rocks) either.
Did I mention I like Ellen Feiss?
I don't think the Apple ads are elitist or snobish, however I do think the HP ads are very cool. By showing what the computer can do in a slick, sci-fiction way, the ads sell the HP computer in a way that the Mac vs. PC ads don't

For Joe Sixpack, the commercials remind him that Mac exist, they're cool and they do neat stuff. And that's the good part.
The bad part is some people think they're being insulted, and some of those people will matter when it's time to buy a computer.
Apple should've gone the HP way, show how cool the computer is and stop mentioning the PC at all.
However, during WWDC, take a shovel to Microsoft is so inclined, that's a time to stir the troops into a fury.

When the Liberals had a majority, they pretty much did what they wanted. They became arrogant. When the Progressive Conservatives under Mulroney had a majority in the 80's, same thing. All of the Verizon stores around me (Lawrenceville/Buford GA) were sold out of the 16GB Ipad's. I decided to call up to the store in Athens, which is only about 35 minutes from my house, and sure enough, they are holding one for me until I get off work. It sounded like they have plenty up there, due to the fact that when I asked if they had any 16GB's the gentleman said, yeah...how many do you need? I was kind of shocked due to Athens being the college town and figured this would be the first place to sell out of them. Anyway, keep looking people...they are still out there.

I can see at least one good reason to have another model of some form:
As an excuse to do a model release halfway during the year.
Currently during the Jan-Jun period, iPhone buyers can only choose from a single model that's six to eleven months "old", with a fairly static price.
Compare that to say, Android buyers, who always seem to have a choice of getting the latest and greatest if they want, or even buy an older model with a possibly nice discount.
Last year, Android ate iPhone sales during the above period. No doubt it will happen again this Winter and Spring. That's a LONG time to be number two (or three) in sales each year. A second iPhone model could change that.
I'm not saying I think they will do this, but it makes sales sense.

Anyone else think this is a little too public? And it's not a very comfortable place to sit having coffee�no matter how good the food is. I imagine a couple of billionaires could have found a more comfortable and more private place for coffee and a chat, unless they're being deliberately "public".

If you want just the email account then yes, .Mac is not worth it. That's the point. .Mac is more than email, and if you want an email address, get Gmail and hook it up into Mail.app....
Are you saying you're happy it costs $99? You don't want to pay less, no? :rolleyes: The more complaining and bad feedback we give Apple that this service is simply too expensive the better, and the better chance we have they will begin to pay attention to loads (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=.Mac%20too%20expensive&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8) of posts/blogs/and stories on this. I feel sick when I have to tell someone how much it costs. I mean they say .Mac syncing is included! You have to pay to sync computers that you payed money for, and worse still you have to give it to the company you bought the computers from?? Give me a break! GMail is free too. iWeb provides little bandwidth, and the whole this is wrapped-up with a tiny storage package. And I don't think the solution is for Apple to give us more storage. I would prefer a cheaper price to more storage any-day. If you want moe storage then you pay $99, otherwise this should cost no more than $49 per year. At the VERY MOST!!

hey i dont know about both MB and MBP being updated at the same time.
Not sure if it would make sense. there are limited Core 2 Duo's available. As Imac has sold well with it. If Apple had decided to use Core 2 Extreme in the Imac. instead of the Duo, then i would agree with all of you thinking that the MacBook would be updated now.
But to be honest, at the moment, i am not sure if it would make sense. I see apple only doing MBP immediately, they need to prove a reason for the power, more than the card slot, graphics chip and different case.

Being a conservative is not about having no social programs but rather it is about being fiscally responsible with tax payers money and spending on social programs that serve the majority of citizens and help promote a strong and healthy workforce. The workforce is the engine of the economy.
Tax cuts are not a bad thing but they should only be done when the government is certain that the budget will be balanced or when they are needed for economic stimulus and they should be across the board or to people on the bottom end.

Chomping at the bit to be at Stonebriar, can't leave here til 4!
My parents just got there, my mom is awesome (swap out with her once I get there). My dad said that they were around 20-25 in line, and within 30 minutes there are now 25 people behind them...so 50 people total (rough estimate.) So I am not sure but I am guessing that line to be over 100+ people around 1ish....I am shocked so many people are there so soon. Maybe its just me though....maybe this is normal....

i have the exact same problem, i can't get update to work, i unplugged all the usb and firewire cables etc. nothing, beeeeep, reboot, grey screen, apple and circle for normal boot... frustration.
i'm running startup disk in sriped raid, can this influence the update?
Well well, I did not know you could boot from a raid set. Live and learn, this is great news, your bood drive can use all 4 drives stripped and mirrored, kool!!!!

now a 2-month old PowerMac is already becoming obsolete.
I certainly hope you didn't buy a Power Mac two months ago, especially since Apple announced the intel switch over a year ago.
Classic was supported until what, last year essentially? And the G3 machines up until Leopard? ;) :cool:
The original G3's were only suppored through 10.2.
While I wish I could run this on my quad, it makes total sense. They're not "abandoning" anyone since this is a new app, and probably won't have a final version shipping for months. If they're expecting slow adoption of this anyway, why bother doing a version that people will be abandoning as fast as they are adopting?
While the intel only thing is a negative, I'm very happy to see any new audio apps appear that are alternatives to STP. Soundtrack Pro is a turd and has been since its release what, a year and a half ago? Apple needs to realize that shipping an app that is complete garbage is not acceptable.
I'd much rather run Sound Forge under parallels than use STP.
